I honestly cannot say enough about Marcia and her passion and leadership that she has consistently demonstrated within the Ballard campus.
Marcia demonstrates Swedish's values on a daily basis and has especially been a shining star through the past 6 months as COVID hit our lives.
Marcia has been instrumental in easing the way for patients as they prepare for surgery or procedures at the Ballard Perioperative department. With all the changes with COVID, Marcia has continually strived to stay abreast of the latest changes and communicates the changes to patients and families as they call with questions or when she calls them for their arrival time. Marcia spends extra time carefully looking through patient's charts to ensure that their COVID test has been drawn and the results are available to avoid a patient showing up with a bowel prep for a colonoscopy or NPO status for surgery to only then have to be canceled due to not having COVID results. (One can only imagine going through a bowel prep then finding out you are being canceled when you show up for your procedure.)
Marcia also stepped up in March when the COVID pandemic started by volunteering to work as a critical care float nurse at Ballard to face the front line. With Marcia's past critical care experience, she was extremely valuable in this role that many nurses did not want any part of. Marcia continues to embody the heart and passion of a nurse and will do whatever it takes to ensure patient safety.
Marcia also demonstrates excellence as she has been a preceptor twice within the last 6 months for 2 PACU fellows. Not only has Marcia been charge nurse a couple of days a week, but she has also been able to precept these two fellows and the program has been extremely successful. With a nationwide shortage of PACU nurses, this has been instrumental in filling some long-term vacancies with nurses through our own Swedish fellow program. Marcia demonstrates excellence in her everyday actions and is the perfect preceptor as she shows compassion and patience while sharing her knowledge and expertise with the fellows.
I honestly cannot say enough about Marcia and her passion and leadership that she has consistently demonstrated within the Ballard campus. Marcia truly is a DAISY Nurse, as she embodies the Swedish values and is a shining star and an example of how we all should be.
Note: This is Marcia's 3rd DAISY Award!
