At the end of a long day, Marcie was admitting an elderly woman who was distraught as she and her husband had "lost" one another. Several calls were made without success, the patient's anxiety increasing. Marcie's shift ended and as she walked out to her car, she noticed an elderly gentleman in a van and it was very hot day. She sensed this might be the "lost spouse". She went up and asked the man if he happened to have a spouse having surgery today. He said "oh yes, I'm waiting for her to come out". Well the patient had not yet had surgery, so he would have had a long wait. Marcie had valet park his van and she walked him up to the pre op area much to the relief of both patient and spouse. Marcie's job hadn't finished just because she had clocked out.

On another occasion, Marcie had a patient who had in the past been severely burned in a meth lab explosion. His arms were terribly scarred. The patient told Marcie, "I made every wrong decision for myself." Marcie told him he had a story to tell- she said "share your story-just like you are telling me, others can benefit and learn from your experiences." When he was ready to go home he found Marcie and said "Thank you. I appreciated being valued." What an example of how each person need to feel appreciated and valued, regardless of what they have or have not done. Marcie said the sermon just the previous day was on Matthew 25:38, 39-"When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in. Or we thee sick, or in prison and came unto thee". Marcie see the people that in as Jesus. Mathew 25:40 "in as much as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, you have done it unto me." Marcie sees nursing as her ministry.

Sermons aren't something to just hear on a Sunday. They are meant to be lived out throughout the week. I am very encouraged by Marcie and grateful for her ministry.
