Marcie showed up to the NICU with a handmade birthday card 'from' our daughter featuring her footprints and helped make our birthday celebration feel that much more special.
I found Marcie comforting my wife as we were planning to be discharged from the hospital after a week-long stay resulting in the early delivery of our firstborn. We were set to go home and leave our child in the NICU a full 8 weeks before we expected to become parents and Marcie was walking my wife through the difficulties of being parents in the NICU and reassuring her that she would cry today and again tomorrow and that it was totally normal. Marcie made both of us feel safe and cared for and allowed us the space to learn how to parent with dignity in a very adverse situation. Shortly thereafter we requested Marcie as our primary nurse, and she has been with us ever since (going on 4 weeks in the NICU now). We have had a lot of wonderful nurses at Swedish, but none have gone above and beyond to support us the way Marcie has. Two weeks after our daughter was born my wife celebrated her birthday and Marcie showed up to the NICU with a handmade birthday card 'from' our daughter featuring her footprints and helped make our birthday celebration feel that much more special. Macie has left us notes to read when we were unable to come into the NICU during her shifts and has made it a point to call us when our daughter reaches milestones in her journey. We can't imagine this experience without Marcie and feel that Swedish is SO lucky to have her. She has shown us nothing but compassion and is clearly one of the most skilled and excellent nurses here.
