My uncle had open heart surgery at Illinois Masonic Hospital. Obviously being a hard time for both him and the family, we were so glad that the quality of care he received was so awesome. Though, I attribute the lasting impression we have of quality nursing care stems from the fact that Marcin was his daytime nurse for the majority of his stay in the SICU. During my uncle's stay in the hospital, family was visiting around the clock; with the primary visiting members being the same core group, which I was part of. Being that I work in the hospital, it was easy for me to go visit my uncle every so often to make sure he was doing well. But, I have to admit, I was more than confident leaving my uncle in the care of Marcin.
Marcin was not only attentive to all of my uncle's needs, but he made sure that everyone understood what was happening, and that everyone felt comfortable with the healing process. He constantly made sure my uncle was pain-free and comfortable, and he made a noted effort to have him out of bed as much as possible so he could start to feel better sooner. Marcin was the most professional and empathetic person I have ever met. He was detailed when explaining occurrences to both my uncle and the rest of the family, and we also noted how thorough he was when transferring him to the care of the evening nursing staff. He kept detailed notes of my uncle's condition, and was always aware of any changes that required attention. Marcin exemplifies an amazing nurse; it is not only the way he cares for the patient and their health condition, but it is also in the way he shows compassion to everyone around him. He treated my family and the situation with the same respect I am sure he would give his own family. Anytime we called for an update, he had one prepared and never made it seem like we were an annoyance. He was always willing to explain anything we had question about or did not understand to the absolute best of his abilities.
During my uncle's stay in the hospital, Marcin's big heart won us over, and we were glad my uncle was being discharged home, but we were also sad to leave such great care. His genuine and compassionate nature, coupled with his intelligence and awareness, make him an excellent nurse. He is truly is a shining star in the nursing world, and Illinois Masonic is lucky to have him.
