Not only was he the nurse, he was our family therapist, friend, and a huge supporter in our decision making.
On an afternoon in mid-January, our grandmother was transported from the E/D up to the ICU. Little did we know, she would be intubated and very unwell. As our family started to gather in the room along her bedside, we were greeted by her nurse Marcus.

From the moment Marcus started to interact with us and provide details on what was to come, we immediately felt that she was safe, and definitely in the hands of someone who cared so deeply for his patients. Marcus spent so much time with our family, providing all the updates, and giving much needed advice-all within protocol.

As the night ended, my mom who is the Power of Attorney of my grandmother, asked how we can request him to be part of her care team the following day, we advised that we will absolutely request him. The next morning I arrived on the floor to visit, and learned that Marcus was her RN that day, such a huge deal for us, and a huge relief.

Later that day our family had to make a very hard decision on my grandmother’s care, and unfortunately she passed away. Marcus was literally our saving grace that day and ½ spent in the ICU. Not only was he the nurse, he was our family therapist, friend, and a huge supporter in our decision making. He walked us through every step of the processes, with no rush, leaving it all up to us when we were ready. He allowed our family to spend the last moments with our loved ones, he helped ease every single worry we had, and he even helped us calm hostile situations that crept up on us.

While we understand that working in the ICU can be tough, Marcus does it with such grace, patience, and love! His dedication to his patient’s do not go unnoticed. I am sure we may have stressed him a little with all of our questions, and wanting things to be explained in depth, but he surely didn’t show it and assured us that all of our questions and worries were absolutely normal. Our family is extremely grateful for all the care given to our loved one here. Marcus you are a true gem and we are so grateful that you got to care for our loved one and did it so well. Lastly, we forgot to thank Marcus when we left the hospital after her passing, but he made sure that once we got to see her after the de-tubing, and IV removal she looked so presentable and at peace for us.
