I had open heart surgery at Mercy San Juan Hospital. I had an amazing cardiac team. My first few days were nearly unbearable, but the Cardiac ICU staff got me through it with quality care, kindness, and humor.

Upon being released to the Cardiac Telemetry Unit, each member contributed greatly to my recovery and met my every need with a smile and helping hand from management down to Student Nurse.

However, there is one member who needs special recognition for his direct contributions to my recovery. RN Marc Tan is an incredible nurse and an even more incredible man. I confided in him about my fears and uncertainties following my surgery. He genuinely listened to me, offered me advice on better communication, and said three words that resonated with me, "You have value." It's become my new daily affirmation. Armed with those words and the things I learned from Marc, I came home to my family, a changed woman. As a result, we were able to mend an 18-month rift seemingly overnight. To their credit, my family responded positively and openly to Marc's suggestions.

Please give Marc Tan my sincerest appreciation for his exceptional and dedicated service. The doctors repaired my heart, but Marc repaired my soul. Marc Tan is truly one of God's angels!
