I was a patient at Avon Hospital, and during my stay, I was taken care of by several nurses, all of whom were excellent! Of those several nurses, there was one who clearly went above and beyond to care for my medical and emotional needs, Marcy. I was admitted to the hospital with severe back pain along with the possibility of a cancer diagnosis. As you can imagine, this possibility brought anxiety, fear, and uncertainty to my well-being. This is where Marcy was simply amazing to meet my needs. We talked about this issue many times during her shifts, and each time, she gave me the opportunity to open up and share my feelings and concerns. She was always extremely knowledgeable while being very compassionate. I knew then, and I still know today, that she truly cared about me not only as a patient under her care but as a person. When she left the room, after our discussions, I felt at ease and with a better understanding of my medical issues. During a specific situation, Marcy's way of being an exceptional nurse was evident more than ever. I was scheduled for a bone marrow biopsy during her shift. As everyone would be, I was very nervous and concerned not only about the procedure but more importantly the results. Several hours prior to the biopsy, we discussed the upcoming procedure as well as the process following the procedure. Again, following our discussion, I was completely at ease about what was to come that afternoon. I think what happened next is what makes Marcy not only an exceptional nurse but an incredible human being. During the procedure, she never left my side and constantly reassured me that everything was going well and that I was doing a great job.
