Marcy has always navigated toward the more challenging patient whether it be the complicated medical/surgical or the patient needing extra attention in their psychological well-being.
Marcy was very encouraging and supportive. She made sure my baby had everything he needed. She checked on us regularly and made sure we had whatever we needed to make sure our stay was pleasant. It was a very hard time for us and we appreciated everything she did.

Marcy has been an employee at CBMC since 2014 where she started on 2300, the Cardiac Telemetry Unit. In 2016, she transferred to the Pediatric Unit as full-time staff and in August of 2021 stepped into the role as Patient Care Coordinator on the day shift. During her time as a staff RN on Pediatrics, Marcy has always navigated toward the more challenging patient whether it be the complicated medical/surgical or the patient needing extra attention in their psychological well-being.
Nursing in the 21st Century is the glue that holds the patient's healthcare journey together and the changes that have taken place over this time period are some that one never would have expected to live through. With this being said, Marcy has embraced one area of pediatric nursing that has been on the rise – that is the well-being of mental health in this population.
She has been a rock to those patients who are in the process of transitioning to the opposite gender along with supporting parents, siblings, and extended family members through this. With this population, she has been witnessed as being sensitive, respectful, and proactive in making sure that all of her colleagues including the multidisciplinary teams understand the dynamics of what is taking place in these particular rooms of her patients that are transitioning. She makes sure that all team members walk into a room with the proper way of addressing the patient and prior to bedside report will emphasize the sex at birth and the gender identity so that everyone is comfortable and no mistakes are made.
Marcy embraces those patients who have 1:1 sitters and are waiting for inpatient psychiatric placement. She takes the time to communicate and understand their mental well-being as to what they are experiencing and how they are handling themselves. One will find Marcy covering for the sitters while they take their breaks.
The nursing profession can be defined as an art and a science; a heart and a mind. We often look at the ‘hands on' as being the main portion of nurses; Marcy not only presents herself with good clinical ‘hands on' skills but also has a compassionate heart and sympathetic mind to nurse those who are dealing with the psychological piece of changing times in today's society while being in the hospital.
