Our son has been in the hospital for several months. Marcy was often his nurse while he was in CCU. She would go above and beyond when he was in her care to assure he was clean, his room area was neat and organized and he was repositioned. Marcy's push is the reason our son has made the progress he did. When his medical condition stabilized, "Team Marcy" worked to get him up and out of his room. She located a stretcher chair and pulled together a team to help move him from his bed to this chair. She also made arrangements to take him for a walk. On a dreary day in October close to 50+ days after fighting day and night for his life, Marcy brought him out for his first breath of fresh air. Did she have to? No, she just knew he would benefit from going outside. This is just one of many acts of kindness Marcy showed our son and our family. Early in September, our son's health was very critical. Marcy took time to share what was happening to him with our family talking with utmost respect and sincerity with all of us. Marcy made him great again. After 130+ days, we have had many nurses. Marcy marked our hearts. We were deeply saddened when she left CCU to take a new position, but it didn't surprise us that she was going to work with more hearts. There are a million "Team Marcy" stories we could share. All of them circling back to her providing nursing care often times in very sedate state with our son, but she kept interacting with him whether he could communicate or not as if he were family. He may not have known if his hair were combed, if he smelled good or if he had a clean gown on, but every single person (and there were many of us) always knew when Team Marcy was in action. And it was those days and nights that we rested because we knew our son was assigned to the best of the best those shifts.
Numerous times we refer to her as "Team Marcy". Whether it was a need we had as family or a need she felt our son would benefit from, she found a way. Never once did I hear not enough staff or it's too late to start. If it was a benefit to us or to him, she made it happen.
Marcy handled crisis situations with an organized and calm disposition. We saw her in positions where she needed to take charge of matters at hand and in situations where teamwork skills were necessary to get the job done. I personally can recall so many times when I would ask myself, who does that anymore? Marcy does. Sanford, you definitely have a great direct patient care provider shining star with Marcy and I'm positive she will continue to touch hearts in her new position. Marcy is a rue DAISY Nurse.
Note: This is Marcy's 2nd DAISY Award!
