Maret recognized the needs for my grandfather and cared for the full scope, by ensuring I, as his granddaughter, was also taking time to manage my own stress. I needed to talk to my grandfather about his advanced directive, from a current condition perspective. He was just one-day clear from his intubation, so it felt awful to put him through the stress, but I felt I needed to know what he wanted for his future health care. Maret was so supportive and caring. She took time to help us relax as a family, by talking to us about life in Oregon, etc. to get us back to a normal type of feeling amid the stress.
