Margie's relentless commitment to her patients, her ability to think outside the box, and her unwavering determination to ensure they receive the best care possible are truly inspiring.
Margie is being recognized for her tireless dedication, outstanding problem-solving, and compassionate advocacy for our patients. Margie consistently goes above and beyond to ensure that every patient receives the best care possible, no matter the obstacle. There have been numerous occasions where Margie has demonstrated her exceptional commitment.
On one occasion, she sent a news article to the physicians on behalf of a patient who had been declined for treatment. Thanks to her persistence, the patient was reconsidered and ultimately accepted for care, leading to a full recovery. In another instance, when a 14-year-old boy needed emergent hand surgery, Margie convinced a hesitant hand surgeon who typically does not operate on pediatric patients that the hand of a 14-year-old would likely be comparable to that of an adult woman. The surgeon agreed, and the patient was successfully treated.
Margie's quick thinking was also crucial in securing emergent transport for a neuro patient in Georgia. When weather conditions led to flight cancellations and the sending facility was unable to arrange ground transport, Margie reached out to multiple county EMS services. She was relentless in her efforts, ultimately securing transport and ensuring that the patient received the critical intervention they needed.
When Valdosta was hit by a hurricane and communication was down, Margie didn't hesitate to jump in. She arranged for a police officer to deliver a satellite phone to the emergency department so the transport team could get in touch with the necessary medical staff, ultimately ensuring that the critical patient was safely transferred despite the challenges.
