Margaret (Mimi) Beck, BSN, RN, CCRN, CSC
A woman who had spent time in the CCU under Nurse Mimi Beck’s care two years ago was recently admitted to St. Joseph Medical Center again. During her stay, her family had the opportunity to share how grateful they remained for the care Mimi had provided.
Her husband reflected on how much the body can forget after a crisis and days in the ICU—but when it is your spouse in the bed, you remember everything.
He recalled his wife’s valve replacement and the stroke she suffered after arriving in the CCU. “They called her bed ##, because that’s where she was—in bed ##.” He then spoke about her nurse, Mimi, saying that she “stuck next to” his wife the entire time.
He remembered Mimi’s care, attention, and skill. Most powerfully, he said he did not think his wife would be here today if it had not been for Nurse Mimi caring for “bed ##” that day.
It is rare to hear the impact of a nurse’s care years after a patient’s hospitalization. This family’s story is a powerful testament to the lasting difference Mimi made in their lives.
