Following emergency surgery for a bowel obstruction, I was faced with the new challenge of living with a colostomy. This is life-altering. I have been a cancer patient for five years and this was one more challenge. Margaret Tucker came to see me the day after surgery and helped to calm me and assure me that I could deal with the new change in my life. She explained all the things I needed to do to care for my stoma. She trained both me and my husband in how to handle the ostomy. She provided me with supplies to transition to home care. Since the surgery, Margaret has been available to answer questions by phone, email, and text! She has worked with me and has offered suggestions to improve my care! She continues to provide support and has been willing to meet with me and examine me in dealing with the issue of appropriate stoma care. She has made my challenging life more bearable!
