Hace poco, mi mamá tuvo un accidente y sufrió varias fracturas. En su última cirugía le colocaron clavos, y durante su recuperación comenzó a presentar mucho dolor, al grado de hacerla llorar.

La enfermera que se encontraba en ese momento se acercó para preguntarle qué le sucedía y si tenía dolor. Mi mamá, por orgullo, inicialmente le dijo que no. Sin embargo, al sentirse cada vez peor, terminó confesando que sí tenía mucho dolor, pero que no sabía cómo manejarlo porque temía el aumento en su cuenta, ya que su seguro estaba por agotarse.

La enfermera le respondió que no se preocupara, que lo importante era controlar su dolor y que ella estaba ahí para cuidarla, incluyendo también el tema de los costos. Inmediatamente contactó a su médico tratante y le administraron medicamento para aliviarle el dolor. Mi mamá fue paciente ambulatoria, y su enfermera nos llamaba cada media hora para informarnos sobre su estado de salud.

Cuando mi mamá salió de recuperación, no dejaba de llorar, diciendo que la enfermera la había hecho sentir muy bien en su momento más vulnerable. Estamos más que satisfechos con el cuidado recibido y con la manera en que logró hacerla sentir. Mi hermana y yo nominamos a nuestra enfermera de recuperación, Margarita.

When my mother came out of recovery, she could not stop crying, saying that the nurse had made her feel very supported during her most vulnerable moment.
