Margie starts her shift with being on time, doing safety checks, prioritizing the tasks for the day (she's a day shifter), confirming with the outgoing nurse what needs to be done, and much more. All of these she does with a smile and a positive outlook.
I've seen her, many times, trace IV bags, lines, and patient accesses without shortcuts. Margie also takes good care of her patients, listens to them, provides options, and makes sure they're fed, and other immediate needs are met. She also taps other resources that could provide more care in order for the patient to have a successful outcome. She finishes her tasks and offers help; she initiates and is proactive about assisting other staff. She's an excellent resource, not only to new nurses but also to more experienced ones. Margie offers the best of what a nurse can be and precepts new staff.
She's an ideal example of a nurse - compassionate, loving, hardworking, resourceful, competent, team player, loyal (she's been with UW Medicine for almost 20 years), and is a true leader!
