Having a baby in the NICU is a terrifying experience. It's truly heartbreaking to realize you'll be separated from your baby. This past March I had twins. One ended up in the NICU, and one stayed with me in my room. My NICU baby was struggling to learn to eat. It was Margie who finally got my baby girl to take a pacifier so she could practice her suck reflex. I felt like Margie went above and beyond to help R learn to eat. When I'd come into the NICU to feed R, Margie would be talking to her. Telling her to start eating so she could go home with her brother because T was getting the pick of all the good toys. It really helped my broken heart to know that R was being talked to and cared for with so much attention and compassion. Margie continuously talked to R while she was caring for her. I loved that. I knew that R wasn't alone as long as Margie was working. Every time I brought Margie breast milk, she told me how great I was doing and how much the milk was helping R. Margie made leaving R in the NICU a bit easier. Margie always reminded me that I was doing everything I could, even if it felt like I wasn't doing anything. She was so incredibly positive and genuinely enjoyed caring for the babies. Margie helped teach me how to feed R and always told me when R started expressing likes and dislikes; it really helped me bond with R. I know that Margie went out of her way to care for us. I am so grateful for her.
