Margo demonstrated great compassion for a husband and wife who were both admitted to the hospital. The husband was admitted to ICU, and the wife was admitted to 5T shortly thereafter. The next morning, Margo was assigned to the wife. The patient was distraught over the news of her husband's condition, which was worsening. Margo obtained a physician's order to allow her to take the wife to ICU in a wheelchair to see her husband. Margo coordinated with the ICU nurse to allow the wife to spend time with her husband while Margo returned to her unit to care for her other patients and carry out her charge nurse duties. Margo remained available by phone and returned to the ICU periodically to render care and medications to the wife. This allowed the wife to remain at her husband's bedside as he continued to deteriorate. A bed was obtained for her to remain next to her dying husband more comfortably. She was able to render comfort and presence to him, holding his hand, as he took his last breath. This remarkable effort by Margo to think outside the box allowed this couple to be together during this difficult time and made a big difference to them and their children.
