August 2015 Honoree
mari len gonzales, RN
Mari-Len was nominated for going out of her way to accommodate a nursing colleague's family after she passed away and organizing a special memorial service for them to enjoy.
I observed her outstanding compassion and devotion to a nursing friend who became critically ill and passed away. Throughout the process, she worked tirelessly to locate the nurse's family in the Philippines, spent time with the patient and her two small children, took them to see their mother in the hospital, and assisted the husband. She even opened her home to them.
After she passed, Mari-Len coordinated with the funeral home and arranged for her brother who was coming from the Philippines to view the body in the funeral home even though she was going to be cremated.
Mari-Len was able to convince the husband, who was having a difficult time with his wife's passing, to have a celebration memorial service, which included arranging for the nurse's pastor to speak and providing a reception with refreshments.
