Ms. Blalock was my child’s night shift nurse for several evenings. She was tasked with watching over my daughter at literally the very worst time in our lives. My daughter was admitted after an attempt to end her own life. Our family is shocked, terrified, and grateful to each and every staff member at Children’s but Maria has absolutely been a stand-out. She’s incredibly compassionate, patient, and kind. She’s gone each evening out of her way to try and make this situation as comfortable as possible and has been so professional and obviously very competent.

She was able to engage with my daughter and I could see the calming effect she has had on her. She’s also been wonderful with my husband and myself. We have been incredibly stressed, and she has been so good with us; pleasant, kind, patient. She went out of her way time after time to help our child feel better whether it was by listening, talking, playing a game of UNO, or encouraging our child to pursue her hobby art. Our daughter sat and discussed future possible professions with Maria as the hours droned on and for the first time in a long time, I saw a spark of interest in my daughter’s face about the prospect of even doing anything as a profession! Maria’s outgoing, engaging personality was able to draw my daughter out of a dark place and engage her in productive conversation. A priceless gift!
