Maria will start communication when the family arrives on the unit and will take the time with the family to ensure they are as comfortable as they can be during the time their family member is in her care.
Maria Bergeret has been an employee here at Good Samaritan Hospital for over 25 years. She currently works in the Neuro ICU as a staff RN. Previously, she worked on the night shift as an ANM sharing a wealth of knowledge with all the new staff members who have gone to the night shift. Since coming to days she hasn’t missed a beat helping both new and experienced nurses. If a fellow coworker has a question or needs additional information in reference to a patient she will find the answers for the staff. She is always looking to keep both herself and the staff up to date finding webinars and educational tools to share with the staff. Since coming to days she has been a preceptor to staff members and goes above and beyond for each and every staff member she precepts.
Maria incorporates the I-Care values in all she does here at Good Samaritan each and every day. She performs her daily activities with the utmost integrity and provides compassion to both the patients and their families. She is respectful to patients, families, peers, and all people she comes in contact with on a daily basis. She goes above and beyond to help all staff members provide the best quality care for all patients.
Maria always steps in to assist her coworkers no matter the situation. When the unit is busy she is the first to lend a hand. When the unit needs to be tidied up, she is there to make sure the unit is neat and clean. She does this all without being asked and without complaint.
As stated above, Maria precepts numerous nurses being one of the most senior nurses in the Neuro ICU. When Maria is precepting she will look for the best assignment for her orientee. She makes sure they benefit from their days with her. I have passed Maria on numerous occasions while she was precepting and she is reviewing everything her orientees need to know in order to provide the best possible care for the specific patient and diagnosis. The orientees always complete their orientation with wonderful things to say about her teaching methods, her patience, the knowledge that she has shared with them, and just her personality.
Maria has a large amount of experience and knowledge and utilizes best practices. Maria will communicate with all members of the team to ensure all patients receive the best care possible. The patient may not be Maria’s patient but she has an eye and ear out for all patients and will make sure all patients in the unit receive the best care while she is on shift. She participates in multidisciplinary rounds to ensure all patients receive optimal care.
Maria is respectful and compassionate to all patients and their family members while in the Neuro Unit. Many of our patients are young and were healthy prior to their admission to our unit when they have a sudden devastating event. Maria will start communication when the family arrives on the unit and will take the time with the family to ensure they are as comfortable as they can be during the time their family member is in her care. She keeps the patients and families updated on what is happening for their day and what they can expect. No matter how many times families call, it is never a bother. Not only is she this way for patients and families but she does the same for her co-workers, always treating everyone with courtesy and respect.
Maria has worked very hard to get to where she is today. She began her career with an Associate’s degree and has toughed it out through her Bachelor’s and is now finishing up her Master’s in Nursing. She is very experienced with a career that includes Med/Surg nursing, Surgical ICU, and now Neuro ICU. She has accomplished all of this while being a single mother to two wonderful children.
Maria is a true role model to all. When trying to think of a specific example of how Maria stands out, there are many I could share. More importantly, Maria does things every day to set an example for her colleagues and peers. She maintains a positive outlook and tries to keep the staff with a positive outlook. She treats all with courtesy and respect. She goes above and beyond for patients, families, and her fellow co-workers. These past two years have been difficult for many and never has that come in the way of her positive attitude. She has planned multiple nights out for the staff, including our Christmas Party. She does this all while raising a family, sitting on multiple committees, and attending school to obtain a Master's in Nursing.
Maria is a true team member and a wonderful asset to the Neuro ICU and our facility.
