Maria Cerqueira, RN

Maria is a very special and unique person and a RN. She made me feel important and really showed she cared about me as a complete person. She treated me with dignity and respect as an individual. She is an excellent listener allowing me to vent about my sadness of having so many complex medical issues and also practically living in the hospital. She really showed empathy and I felt she really cared about how I was feeling. She volunteered to wash me up and took the time to walk with me around the hallway several times and listened to my share the challenging life I have endured and with the support from people like her and the biggest support system it has kept me fighting for a halfway normal life trying to stay out of the hospital. I am also a registered nurse and as we all know deep in a blood when you run into having a real example of a very caring dedicated professional who looks at her patients as whole individuals not just there medical diagnosis. Everyone wants to be viewed as whole including physical, mental, spiritually and culturally. I got very lucky today to be able to have a nurse who has impacted in such a positive day. I was sad to say goodbye but hopefully will run into her out of the hospital in a store or out of the hospital. Thank you for allowing me to nominate this extremely professional caring unique nurse. It’s nice to see that there are still nurses that continue to inspire and goes the extra mile in nothing expected in return. Thank you Maria.
