Christy was returning to the office from lunch when she noticed a husband and wife intensely arguing in the parking lot. The couple had a baby (3weeks old) with them. The day was very hot ranging in the 90s. Christy being the compassionate nurse and good Samaritan she is approached the couple to see if they needed any assistance. It turned out the couple's car had run out of gas across the street from the MOB and had no money.
While speaking with the couple, Christy noticed it was very difficult for the wife to stay focused, keep her balance and have her eyes open. The husband also appeared to share the same difficulties. Christy and other staff offered the couple to go inside the MOB to cool down while they called for help.
Christy had noticed that the baby was wrapped in a heavy blanket and was very sweaty in his carrier. The baby was also sucking on his hand hungrily. The couple decided to go inside the Barranca office, however, the husband decided to walk to the nearest gas station about 1 block away. Christy had graciously donated $40.00 to the family to help them with gas and food.
While the husband was off trying to get gas, Christy noticed that the baby had a very full diaper. The Mother did not have any diapers. Also, she did not have any water to mix the dry baby formula with. Christy provided the mother with water and diapers form the clinic's pediatric department and assist the mother with feeding and changing the baby.
The baby was cooled down. Not knowing for sure what was causing the mother from staying focused or keeping her balance the police were called by the administration. The police arrived and it was determined by the police that the mother and father were on parole. The mother for a DUI and the father had a suspended license. It was found by the police she had heroin in her possession and was possibly under the influence of an illegal substance. The father never returned to the clinic to pick up his wife and baby. It was later found that the father had been arrested at a nearby grocery store due to a disturbance.
The police determined it was best to call CPS for the 3-week old baby boy in order to ensure his safety.
Christy is a great compassionate nurse who goes above and beyond to help those in need. Without her compassion and care for that baby, I don't know what would have happened to that poor child.
