Carmen Saucedo exemplifies caring everyday with every veteran and staff member that she comes in contact with.
A Veteran came to the Women's Clinic and just sat down in the lobby. Staff was familiar with the Veteran and notified the RN and LPN.
Carmen, the team’s LPN, came out right away to have the Veteran come back to her office. The Veteran had walked over from the inpatient unit and was very confused and did not remember why she had come. The Veteran left the clinic stating that she was going to go back to the inpatient side to get her things.
Carmen got in touch with the inpatient unit and found that the patient was not completely discharged and immediately went looking for her. The Veteran was located quickly, downstairs at transportation. Carmen talked to the Veteran who was confused and offered her a wheelchair. The Veteran declined and wanted to walk, so Carmen walked her back to the hospital (while pushing a wheelchair in case she changed her mind).
The Veteran ended up calling the clinic to speak to Carmen to tell her that she very much appreciated Carmen helping her and to tell her that she thinks Carmen is more than “just a nurse.“
The fact that this Veteran, while confused and disoriented, subconsciously walked all the way to the Women’s clinic in building 81 says a lot for the care that she has received by Carmen and her team.
The Veteran felt safe enough to know that she would be taken care of.
