First and foremost, let me say that all the nurses on the third floor are doing a good job. The night I met Nurse Maria, she blew me away. She walked into my room, being the professional that she is, and started asking me all the questions that every other nurse asked me as soon as they enter my room. I really don't know how to say this except to say that when she was asking me the questions it didn't seem like she was reading a "cheat sheet". I got the feeling that she genuinely cared about the way I was feeling. I really liked how, after introducing herself, the first question she asked me was, "Are you comfortable and are you in any pain right now?" She also told me, "If there is anything you need just let me know". This may sound strange but all the sudden I thought of my mom and my Grammy. I know I am just a patient here and I know I am not her only one, but I'm pretty sure the rest of her patients feel the same way she made me feel, which is like I was her only patient.
The care and compassion Maria showed without knowing it was extraordinary. She really is a phenomenal nurse. You can see that she really cared about you and your health. Everything I needed or wanted, she was there, and she made it happen. Now don't get me wrong, the other nurses are good, and I know that day shift can be a lot busier than the night shift, but nobody shows care and compassion like Maria does. I can't thank her enough for the way she made me feel. She made me feel like I was home under my mother's care. Thank you, Maria.
