Dr. Hines has worked for 39 years in various roles in nursing including critical care, burns, maternity, and quality improvement as well as teaching nursing in an ASN program for 25 years.
Dr. Maria Hines is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Indiana University Fort Wayne. She is a Certified Nurse Educator (CNE), Certified Critical Care Nurse (CCRN), and a Tobacco Treatment Specialist. She has worked for 39 years in various roles in nursing including critical care, burns, maternity, and quality improvement as well as teaching nursing in an ASN program for 25 years. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau and The Transcultural Nursing Society.
Dr. Hines was recently awarded the 2022 Indiana University Trustees Teaching Award, and the 2021 Sequoia Award from Indiana University’s Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. In addition, she is a 2021 Edmond J. Safra Visiting Nurse Faculty Program Scholar through the Parkinson’s Foundation. Dr. Hines is passionate about global health and transcultural nursing. She has taught clinical and didactically in Adaptive Processes, Transitions in Health & Illness Intensive, and Transcultural Health Within a Global Context as well as in the RN to BSN Consortium. Her areas of interest include tobacco cessation, e-cigarettes and vaping, transcultural nursing, global health, health disparities/population health, health policy, and active learning strategies in nursing education.
