Particularly impressive was Maria Gerda’s attentiveness to fulfill the task, an important asset in the oversight of such a complex project.
It is with great pleasure that I nominate one of the Oncology Staff assigned to Pediatric Oncology. As everyone knows, caring with Oncology patients, especially in Pediatrics, is one of delicate, sensitive patients and very difficult to care for in terms of psychological, physical, and spiritual well-being. You’re always involving and extending your care to the rest of the family. Once you are there, you will experience all the unexpected moments in your life. Believe it or not, you can say a single statement: “BETTER TO CARE THAN TO BE CARED”

Ms. Maria Gerda Opague is the staff that I’m referring to the committee. She has proven herself to be one of the Outstanding Senior Staff in the said unit. Maria Gerda’s history of service has been extraordinary in this Institution, not because she is fond of adventures in her nursing profession by way of upgrading her professional level due to her ambitions to be a good and active leader and a compassionate nurse to her patient.

Maria Gerda continues to show her deep understanding of all issues, her ability to work affably with everyone, and her amazing attentiveness to detail. She believes that she can make a difference for the betterment of all Oncology patients, especially Pediatrics, as well as their families, considering co-staff involvement. Being a dedicated and compassionate nurse, she led and organized a project that will primarily help 100% of our “Pediatric Cancer Patients.” Due to the shortage of Blood and Blood Products transfusions, she finally organized a “Blood Donation Campaign” recently. She knows exactly how difficult it is to organize such a project, which involves a vast number of people, but because she wanted to help our “Little Angels” in our Pediatric Oncology Unit.

She delegated tasks, supervised the lengthy planning process, and saw it through from beginning to end. Particularly impressive was Maria Gerda’s attentiveness to fulfill the task, an important asset in the oversight of such a complex project.

For all the hardships and effort she went through, she was able to go through with it by organizing a Blood Donation Campaign for our Pediatric Oncology/Hematology/Bone Marrow Transplant patients with the Theme “BLEED A LITTLE, SAVE A LOT” on 5 August 2016.

She coordinated with Blood Bank employees and with our King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Center—Jeddah Organization, K.S.A. Surprisingly, the project's outcome was very successful. Out of 60 registered persons, 53 passed the screening and donated blood for our Pediatric Cancer patients.

Thanks to the relentless work of Maria Gerda Opague and this co-team, Alpha Phi Omega, Jeddah Alumni Association. The “2016 BLEED A LITTLE, SAVE A LOT” project was one of the most inspiring projects in the record from the Nursing department of King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Center- Jeddah Organization, K.S.A. The project was also published in “ARAB NEWS”, one of a well-known daily Newspaper in the Kingdom.

Ms. Maria Gerda Opague has proven herself to be an Outstanding Leader, and her compassion for her profession towards her patients leads her to be a better person to everyone.
