Dr. Krol also uses her skills as an educator to consistently assess and evaluate student and program needs to ensure that students graduate practice-ready.
Dr. Maria Krol is a role model and mentor for all (students, staff, and faculty) within the Department of Nursing. She has created an inclusive climate within the department that reflects not only her core values of diversity and equity but also the university’s mission for social justice. Dr. Krol is an exemplary leader and is always exploring innovative approaches to support students and faculty, as well as increasing opportunities to expand programs to meet the diverse needs of students and working professionals.

Dr. Krol created many new opportunities both inside and outside the classroom walls. She was the driving force and visionary for the successful service-learning experience in Peru for students. Through this venture, Dr. Krol has created a sustainable model along with providing the needed support to a significantly underserved population in Cusco, Peru. Dr. Krol also started the summer Nursing Symposium for high school students in urban communities to expose them to career paths within the health science fields. Her collaboration and leadership have again proven to help build a sustainable program in partnership with local public school systems and the surrounding healthcare systems.

In addition to her leadership, she is an exceptional educator; she is always seeking new ways to engage with students and advance their critical thinking skills. She is passionate about equity in health care, and through coursework, simulations, and clinical experiences, Dr. Krol helps students understand the importance of cultural competence and helps them begin their own journey to become culturally competent practitioners. A strong proponent of assessment, Dr. Krol also uses her skills as an educator to consistently assess and evaluate student and program needs to ensure that students graduate practice-ready.
