If she finds out that the family doesn't have the funds to pay to get out of the garage, Maria will take her card and pay for the family's parking.
I work with Maria and because our hours frequently coincide, we walk out to our cars together. One day, I witnessed a behavior that I have seen Maria do many times in the past.
Someone, usually a family of our patients, in the garage parking wants to exit after having a stressful time with appointments for their child.
They get to the exit and realize that there is not an attendant, only a machine to pay. The family also didn't see the automated pay machine in the lobby of the garage. The family gets flustered because the machine doesn't take credit cards, only cash. The family is franticly looking for any cash or any way to pay to get out of the parking garage and be on their way. In this and many scenarios like this, Maria will put her car in park and walk up to the family with a card in her hand, to ask if they need help.
If Maria finds out they just need help understanding the machine, she walks the family through the steps to finish their transaction. But if she finds out that the family doesn't have the funds to pay to get out of the garage, Maria will take her card and pay for the family's parking. Recently, that is what Maria did. She paid for a family's parking who had appointments for their child. Maria truly cares for the patients and families of Riley Hospital.
