We had a male 4 year old who was brought to LGH ER by ambulance from another facility. This was an emergent situation where this young man required immediate OR intervention for testicular torsion. Fast forward, after surgery, this young man was discharged home from our unit. The problem was, Mom arrived to our facility via ambulance, her car remained at the other facility. She had no way home, no family member or friend to pick them up here at LGH and drive them back. One of our PACU RNs, Maria Lewis was worried and genuinely concerned about this little 4-year-old. Not only did Maria help them obtain an Uber ride home, but her compassionate caring also took over and she gave the mom her car seat from her car for transport so they could travel safely home. To me, she lives up to the definition of compassionate caring! Going above and beyond!
