Maria Lugod is a phenomenal nurse and peer. She is an excellent team player.
On Saturday night we were understaffed on nights and had a baby born at midnight right after finishing report. That baby was unstable. The baby warranted a 1:1 need for nursing care and was eventually intubated and sent to University of Chicago that morning. Maria Lugod was on Mother Baby. We called to get some help from either Mother Baby or Labor and Delivery nurses. Maria came over from Mother Baby and helped us the entire night while she had a full assignment of her own patients on Mother Baby that she was responsible for. Maria came into the nursery without a problem. She helped feed and take care of seven babies and draw our labs and made cribs and took out the linen. It's even the little things that help keep the unit going. Meanwhile, we stabilized and cared for the baby to be transferred. Without Maria's help, it would have been a mess.
Maria was so helpful and is such a great team player. This is not the only time Maria has helped us out. She is always a great back up and she has awesome teamwork skills.
