When I think of nurses who embody being a vigilant patient advocate, Maria really stands out. She consistently has an excellent grasp of her patient’s clinical status and needs. On rounds when I interact with her it is clear that she is actively seeking out ways to be proactive in improving her patient’s health. Whether it is optimizing glycemic control, better treating pain, or noticing a subtle warning sign that a patient is becoming unstable; Maria’s fantastic skill and devotion to nursing have helped numerous patients. More than once her attention to detail has prevented a patient from having a crisis. I am certain that her skill and dedication have saved many lives and will continue to do so. She is a model nurse who does honor to her profession.
