Maria has been a committed and unshakeable force as the Nurse Educator, she has made it her goal to ensure all team members have the support and resources to be successful members of their team.
It is with great pleasure and enthusiasm that I nominate Maria Manzella for OUMC’s DAISY Nurse Educator Award in recognition of her outstanding contributions, experience, and dedication to our patients, Team, and Community. Maria has been a committed and unshakeable force as the Nurse Educator, she has made it her goal to ensure all team members have the support and resources to be successful members of their team. These team members connect easily with Maria and know that her open-door policy applies to each and every one of them (something that her H&V Manager frequently uses!) It is always refreshing and warming to see Maria leading her new TMs and Nursing Students throughout the Hospital, connecting them with new Departments and Staff. She always radiates TRUE warmth and passion for her role and takes it incredibly seriously! Maria works tirelessly and collaboratively to take on new projects and become the content expert on new equipment and procedures. There have been plenty in the new H&V Center!

Despite all of the challenges, changes, and growth in our H&V Center, Maria has been a steadfast contributor to the success of both my team and me. Her 27-year history supporting our HMHN family and ensuring that current and future Nurses are as dedicated and bright as she is, is a testament to her deep connection with the profession of Nursing. As Chair of the Integrative Health and Wellness and Nursing Research Councils, Maria’s leadership does not stop as our Nursing Educator. She is a strong advocate for self-care and compassion, and I have had the joy of seeing many of my team members be inspired to join her committees. If you ever participate in Maria’s committees or have a chance to speak with her, ask her how she prioritizes her challenges and about her “put your trouble in a bubble and let it go” mentality!

In closing, Maria exemplifies the attributes of a DAISY Nurse Educator. She has earned not only this nomination but also the respect of her Leaders, peers, patients, and hundreds of Nursing Students and Staff Nurses. I am continuously impressed and appreciative of Maria’s motivation for her profession, and I strongly urge you to recognize her efforts with this prestigious award.
