Maria cared for my father withdrawing from alcohol. Her interactions with him and me were overflowing with care and compassion. That alone was outstanding enough to submit this. But wait, there’s more! She also took the initiative to care for her patient, my father. She reviewed his labs meticulously, kept track of his imaging, and communicated about imaging ordered and waiting to be completed. She went over his treatment plan with me, listened to me, and answered all my exhausting questions with empathy!!

And on top of all that, she then advocated for him and contacted the provider on shift who ordered an ortho consult. On NIGHT SHIFT! That has saved me weeks of trying to coordinate. Just amazing. She cared just as much for me as she did for my father, but from an army nurse that is very, very worn down, she was revitalizing. She is the epitome of what it means to be not just a nurse but a GREAT nurse.

I know lots of wonderful nurses, but this is my first DAISY nomination submission. Simply outstanding care. I hope she gets the recognition I feel she so greatly deserves. Maria, you will never understand how deeply grateful I am to have had you during this time, but truly, you felt like a Godsend. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
