As Maria's Manager, I am forwarding the letter below which was sent to me regarding a recent patient Maria cared for. Our unit is not a hospice unit though we do provide care for these patients as needed just as any other Med/Surg/tele unit does. This family member was very much on target with his assessment of the type of person Maria is and that she is doing what she was "called" to do. She is so very caring and compassionate in all of her interactions with patients, families and other members of the healthcare team. She makes you feel like you are the only person that is on her list for the day and provides her full attention to you.

"I wanted to reach out to let you know of the good people you have working for "you and us", those with loved ones in your and CCF's care, in your Hospice Unit. I stopped in this afternoon to be with my aunt to silently say a prayer of mercy while peeking back at fond memories gone by. It was a pleasure to interact with her nurse, Maria. It is comforting to know that she and all the staff are so compassionate. Maria is in her calling. Hers is a "spirit of kindness". Where I work, we practice your CCF 'Start with Heart'. Today, I witnessed your people succeeding in the proper demonstration of it. With a smile!"
