Maria has a beautiful soul that can be challenging to see in a nurse after so many years of service.
Nomination 1:
Her knowledge of the endocrine system is unmatched. There is no question about testing supplies or insulin pumps that she cannot answer in great detail. She is quiet and reassuring to diabetic patients who are frantic because they can't get their blood sugar under control, they can't get their insulin pump to work correctly, or they are confused by their new CGM. She will spend as much time on the phone as needed, and the patient is always much calmer at the end of the call. They have a better understanding of their equipment and a better understanding of their disease.

Nomination 2:
Maria is such a dedicated nurse to her team and patients. She has adopted NM Values since being acquired from Palos Health. Maria has been a nurse for over 20 years and has such a wealth of knowledge that she is not afraid to share with patients and the team. She has been in Endocrinology for over 12 years and is a certified diabetic educator. Maria has a beautiful soul that can be challenging to see in a nurse after so many years of service. She is not jaded by chronic conditions such as Diabetes. She is driven by a desire to serve her patients with any concerns. She is a pillar of the team, who would not be the same without her dedication and guidance. She has exceptional patience for teaching. She taught me for almost 3 years while working with her. I became the nurse I am today only through the guidance and support of my mentor, Maria. Since then, I have grown into a new leadership role, and she is now training two new nurses within the Endo team. They are shining thanks to her mentorship and continued dedication to teaching. I am so proud to say that I learned from Maria. Not only did I learn patient-centered nursing from her, but also how to lead a team internally with grace and patience. Preceptors/ mentors are the most important part of coming into a nursing role. I am incredibly honored and grateful for Maria's mentorship. I watched her manage endless calls with patients, all with steady compassion and tailored treatment education. Every patient who knows Maria (few do not) recognizes her with the utmost trust. They know if Maria is on it, they are in good hands. She is very deserving of this Award - dedicated to Exceptional Nursing. Maria embodies the values of NM and the DAISY Award legacy.
