July 2026 Honoree
Maria Pujols, BSN, RN
My child was in the Emergency Department for respiratory distress and was eventually diagnosed with pneumonia and sepsis.
Maria advocated for my child at every turn. She kept me informed while keeping my daughter calm. She took extra steps to reduce future lab processing time. She advocated to move my daughter to a trauma room. She cleared her other patient load to focus on her in order to better respond when a life-threatening emergency did happen.
Her professionalism, dedication, and humanity helped my child heal faster and avoid a worse outcome. I honestly believe that without Maria as her nurse that day, we would have needed longer for my daughter to heal in the PICU, if not an even worse outcome.
Thank you to all of the staff who supported my child that day, but especially to Maria.
