My mom had her dignity back and felt alive again. I cannot say enough good things about Maria.
Maria was the Registered Nurse assigned to my mother. I had visited her the day before and she did not look good, nor did she look like she felt good. It was the first time seeing her since she had arrived at VCU. I was so distraught I did not know what to do.
The next morning, I was welcomed by a smiling face who introduced herself as Maria. She told me if I needed anything to let her know. I came in and combed my mom’s hair and put it up for her. Then, thanks to Maria, we washed her hair, cleaned the blood out of her nostrils, cut, filed, and cleaned her finger and toenails. Maria helped me get all the tools I needed to make it happen. She helped me find my mom’s glasses and she hooked up the TV remote. My mother and I watched Pretty Woman together and had a great day. We had her bright-eyed and bushy-tailed before I left.
My mom had her dignity back and felt alive again. I cannot say enough good things about Maria. I asked my mom who her favorite nurse was so far, and she wrote Maria on her notepad! She is such a rock star! I felt so confident leaving my mother in her hands. Not to mention she was gentle, kind, communicated with my mother, and was an extremely skilled RN.
