The last ten months of my life have taken me down a journey full of struggles. I am physically and emotionally exhausted. I have spent the better part of the last two months in the hospital with no real answers in sight. To say I am depressed would be an understatement. The sadness had started to overtake any brightness in my days. I spent over a month at Butterworth and then had a short stay at home before returning for more surgery. The dark cloud seemed like it was there to stay.
Then Maria showed up. We had not met before, but she somehow knew that I was in a bad place and she took a little extra time that day just to listen, bring me some comfort through my tears, and offered to keep me in her prayers. I know she would say it was just part of her job, but it was more than that. Maria's kindness was sincere and from the heart, and for that moment I didn't feel so all alone.
I don't know where this journey is going to lead me, but I at least had the strength to keep fighting, when just a short time before I didn't think I could take one more step. Thank you is not enough, but it's all I have. I will never forget her thoughtfulness.
