Maria assisted a patient and family member to the lobby on discharge with all her belongings. Upon exiting the elevator on 8PE suddenly realized that the patient's 4 prong cane was left on the elevator mistakenly. Maria immediately went into recovery mode.....getting the elevator to come back but unfortunately the cane was gone. She then went to each floor that the elevator could stop at and searched but still no cane. She notified security and assured the patient that she would get a cane to her the following day.

Next day Maria still could not locate cane. On the unit another cane was found and Maria was advised to take this one to the patient as a replacement. Those of you who know Maria know how particular and caring she is.......and this did not fly or sit right with her so.....

Maria then took it upon herself to go the medical plaza and purchased a new cane which she hand delivered to the patient in sub-acute on her way home that night.

The staff on 8PE is very fortunate to work with such a caring, compassionate, and resourceful nurse like Maria who truly demonstrated been an advocate for her patient as she went above and beyond in providing extraordinary care. This comes natural to her every day in all her interactions.
