Given the statements that Mariah heard the patient say in a time of crisis, she had so much compassion and care to help this new mother before it was too late.
Mariah had a patient who needed extra support throughout her hospital stay. The patient had a newborn with little to no support at home; in fact, the patient didn't have a home to go to. Mariah had collaborated with team members to facilitate a room at CAPSA, as well as other things. As Mariah and another nurse coming on shift were helping the new mom out to her car, the patient had made statements alarming the two nurses of the patient's and newborn's well-being and safety. Mariah had a great rapport with the mother and was able to get the mother safely back in the hospital to re-evaluate her plan. The MD was called and made aware of the situation. The patient had been listened to with great care and concern. Mariah was able to put aside the fact that she had stayed well past her shift ending to make sure the other nurse and the patient were situated before leaving. The patient had told me, the next RN on the day shift, that Mariah was a "goddess" and had so much love and praise for her. She was so appreciative of what was done for her and her newborn.

The patient's life was quite literally saved, as well as the newborn's. Given the statements that Mariah heard the patient say in a time of crisis, she had so much compassion and care to help this new mother before it was too late. Mariah simply could have disregarded the statement and actions that were presented because it was shift change. I am so proud to call Mariah my co-worker and friend!
