On Wednesday October 14th, we were short staffed and overburdened with our patient load; Mariah Pruett was assigned to rooms 1-4. Mariah also had an orientee with her at the time. Almost immediately after shift change, there was a rush of patients that never seemed to stop. While this influx of patients affected every staff member, Mariah's assignment was particularly affected due to the acuity of the patients coming in the door. There were multiple Code S's these are stroke patients, Code Blues, and unresponsive patients all seemed to come in within minutes of each other.

Mariah handled each patient with the utmost professionalism, assessing and prioritizing their individual needs to give them the best outcome possible. Furthermore, despite the workload, she remained calm and consistent, displaying levels of compassion for each patient and their family member. This type of calm and compassion is not often seen when treating so many sick patients so quickly. Her ability to remain calm and reassuring helped not only the patients and their family members; it also helps members of the staff have confidence in her leadership skills.

Her performance on October 14th is an example that all nurse should strive for every day. She truly set the standard to a higher level.
