I am a new registered nurse on B6. I am currently in the Nurse Residency Program, adjusting to my new floor. My nurse preceptor called in sick, and Mariah volunteered to step up and precept me for the day. As a new nurse, it felt very welcoming to have Mariah step up and take me. Throughout the day, Mariah demonstrated compassionate nursing with all the patients by staying in the room, listening to them, and addressing their needs. One example I can give is that a patient was in restraints due to altered mental status post-op a procedure, and she made sure the patient still felt safe and helped make the wife at bedside comfortable by providing updates on the plan of care.

I personally want to give a big thank you to Mariah for the way she trained me that day because she demonstrated patience with me as I learned to navigate the IV pumps and hanging IV medications. Mariah is very skillful at planning her day and showed me how to manage/plan for my day. Mariah thoroughly showed me how to navigate the charting system, Cerner, and how to understand power orders. This day was very meaningful for me. Mariah was in the room with me at all times, allowing me to have hands-on experience with the patient, and it allowed me to ask questions right then and there. Mariah made the day comfortable and inspired me for when I am on my own, caring for my own patients. She defines 100% of all the qualities a nurse preceptor should demonstrate, so that's why I would like her to be recognized.
