Maricel Poston is the most amazing nurse that I have ever come in contact in my life, including a period of 4 years overseas as a Marine M. P., a firefighter, and witnessing the births of my two sons. During an extremely hard time for myself, I witnessed genuine, loving and compassionate care towards all the people and colleagues she came in contact with. As a marine and a tattoo artist, I have a lot of tattoos and a very gruff look. I am constantly treated as an ex-con vs. an average person.
One night I was feeling terrible and very upset and crying due to having to be away from my wife and two sons. This caused me to miss my 12-year-old son's final 5th-grade football game that I typically coach. Maricel sat with me for over half an hour consoling me and allowing me to use her personal phone to witness the win; they won the District Championship. I got to celebrate with them as I did not have my personal cell with me. At no point in time was she anything but sweet and went well above and beyond to ensure my stay was comfortable and pleasant as being locked in a room for 4 days could possibly be for a 33-year-old Marine with PTSD, service anxiety and high BP. Many, many times we would share stories of her family back home and about her husband's retirement from the service as well. This helped me so much more than my meds.
Maricel more than deserves this award. I know the struggles of living in a new country and the success and care she shows for being away from the Philippines for over 14 years is above amazing!
