Her overall personality is so natural and warm that I was immediately put at ease. She took time to listen to my story about what prompted my stay, what treatment I'd received so far, what was working, and what seemed to have stalled out.
This is the first time in my 83 years that I have ever written any kind of commendation letter. I have had many people provide good service but never to the extent you are about to read about. She also radiates confidence in her medical knowledge and skills. I am having some trouble choosing the right words, but I hope you get the gist of my comments.
I liked her the first minute we met…there was a big smile when she told me her name and her positive attitude was obvious. Her overall personality is so natural and warm that I was immediately put at ease. She took time to listen to my story about what prompted my stay, what treatment I'd received so far, what was working, and what seemed to have stalled out. The things that seemed to have stalled were:
Getting an echocardiogram scheduled
Getting a PT evaluation scheduled
Getting an MRI of my right ankle scheduled
Get me off an unnecessary antibiotic IV
Get me an increase of Metoprolol as necessary
Get maintenance to fix the heat in the room
The results of the top 3 were critical in being able to be released in a timely manner and to know what would need in follow-up care.
She gave me hope with her beautiful smile, kept me posted of her progress, explained cause and effect of things when I had questions.
As a result of her persistence, she accomplished everything on the list. The supervisor of echo unit came himself to administer the test. She talked to some friends in PT and got them to see me. The MRI group hadn't committed by the time she went off shift, so she made one final call, and I got my MRI just before midnight. The unnecessary IV was stopped. Extra Metoprolol was approved as needed, and finally, maintenance came in and fixed the temperature problem.
Maricela makes customer service look so easy, and, as we know, that isn't always the case. I learned that she is basically a stay at home, mom except for 1 shift a week. She has a 2 year old, a 3 year old, and a 5 year old, so I also admire her dedication to family. I don't know the requirements, but I think any organization would love to have her as Head Nurse if she wanted the position. PLCOM would be very fortunate to have her back full-time in her existing job when she's ready to return.
If there is such a thing as having a great day in the hospital, then I had one, thanks to Maricela Nava.
