I want to take a moment to recognize a phenomenal nurse with whom I've had the privilege to work. She brings 12 years of oncology experience to the breast surgical oncology team. Her kindness and compassion are evident as she reassures patients and spends time listening to their concerns and fears. She uses her intricate knowledge of types of chemotherapy and their side effects to counsel patients prior to their treatments. Her expertise allows her to counsel and reassure patients who may be anxious or fearful of their planned chemotherapy treatments. She makes herself available to all our patients by giving them her personal office number and encouraging them to call with any concerns. In her short time as a surgical oncology nurse, she has worked hard to become versed in the treatment algorithms for breast surgery. She has quickly learned and become an expert in the subtle nuances of breast cancer. She is loved by her patients, who demand to see her and say hi when they are in the hospital, recovering from surgery. She makes it a point to visit every postoperative patient who stays overnight at the hospital, to make sure their emotional needs are being met. Marie's compassion, kindness, and love of oncology patients make her an excellent member of the Banner MD Anderson breast cancer team at Del Webb.
