My grandmother was brought into their ER. She had many other health issues at the time but had unfortunately contracted COVID-19 at the rehab facility she was currently at. We all knew if she contracted it should we unfortunately not make it through, which was the case. She passed away on hospice care peacefully.
What Marie did for us will always be something that I cannot thank her enough for. She was able to set up a video call for my family and me using her personal phone so that we could see and talk to grandmother one last time. As a fellow healthcare worker, I know that it has been overwhelmingly busy in the ER and extremely difficult to navigate COVID-19 patients. Marie put my family over her own time and safety to give us that last moment.
We laid her to rest yesterday on Mother's Day and without that last call, I do not think I would have been able to handle it. Marie certainly did not have to do what she did, and I will be forever grateful to Marie.
