June 2021 Honoree
Marie Enell, BSN, RN
Marie had a patient who had vague symptoms of nausea, discomfort, and then vomited. He was getting ready to leave and kept brushing away his symptoms, but Marie felt that something was not right. She assessed his vitals, persisted in asking him about his symptoms, and he finally admitted that he felt some tension and chest tightness. One of the drugs the patient takes can have cardiac effects and with his age and comorbidities, Marie reported her assessment to the provider. Marie took him to the ED right away, where he ended up being diagnosed with a STEMI. She trusted her instincts, listened carefully to the patient, stayed calm the entire time, and made quick and smart decisions. She truly made an impact on this patient and delivered extraordinary care.
Thank you, Marie, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
