Marie Bailey cared for a 92-year-old patient who underwent an extensive procedure and had to stay in the ICU for four days. In the words of the patient’s family, she is an “extraordinary nurse”. The patient’s extensive family interacted with Ms. Bailey during the patient’s 4-day stay. The daughter of the patient personally observed Ms. Bailey exhibit exceptional empathy numerous times toward her mother’s concerns, discomforts, and uneasiness about what was going on with her health. “She addressed my mother’s needs promptly and always with a smile, demonstrated incredible patience, and allowed my mother to always maintain her dignity.“

The daughter believes that Ms. Bailey’s compassion and emotional support positively contributed to her mother's confidence and health. “She showed my mom respect by always addressing my mother first before asking family members for questions and concerns.” Due to the limited number of visitors in the ICU room, most of our family members stayed in the waiting room as we took turns visiting with my mother. Ms. Bailey’s excellent care for my mother was a common topic we discussed.
