During my recent stay as an inpatient, I was privileged to have Marie McGinnis as my nurse. She epitomizes the idea in nursing. I am 70 years old, with a complex medical history, and have had more than 30 surgeries, beginning in early childhood. I remember the personal attention nurses gave me in the early days. Marie is a veteran and goes the extra mile for you at every opportunity. I'm a composer and when she learned this she sang songs with me. When my doctor finally took me off liquids Marie ordered me some real food and a late tray because she knew I had been starving for days. She is sweet and compassionate and a lovely person. I feel I made a new friend in Marie, and I believe she feels the same.
