Marie Morse's superior clinical skills have made her a resource nurse for our team. Whenever there is a question regarding paperwork, policy, computer charting, or surgeon preferences, Marie shares an unbiased answer without hesitation or judgment. Her candid, kind and professional manner is well received by patients, doctors and co-workers. In addition to her excellent documentation and interpersonal skills, her positive attitude and genuine kindness puts any nervous or anxious families and patients at ease immediately. Marie consistently helps staff with difficult IV placement. Her ability to work with OR scheduling changes is exceptional.
Marie had a confused patient that required reassurance and a watchful eye. Marie continued to admit other patients for their scheduled surgeries, while continuously checking on the confused patient. Marie routinely checks the OR schedule for the following day. She makes a note on the patients that still need MRI or CT scans prior to the surgery. She comes in early before her 5am shift starts to ensure that these patients' MRIs and CT scans are done. Marie's humble nature is perhaps her most endearing quality. She is approachable for everyone. Her tone of voice, body language, eye contact, and choice of words validates people's needs. Marie's nature is encouraging and eliminates shame.
Marie, a staff nurse at Brackenridge for 38 years, leads and teaches as a role model and example. Marie will be retiring at the end of this month. She will be missed dearly, she is a living legend. Marie has worked in that same building for the last 38 years. Her work history includes 1975-1978 - Red Brick Building, 1980-1982 - Red Brick Building, 1982-1996 - 8W, 1996-1999 - 9th Floor, 1999-present - Day Surgery. Per Tara O'Neil "As I worked here the last four weeks, it has been an honor and a pleasure to be training with her for my first month in Day Surgery. As an experienced nurse at Brackenridge for 24 years myself, I've experienced Marie's qualities clearly and objectively. It's truly an honor." Angie R.N. - "Marie will be missed. She has been a strong positive force here in Day Surgery for years. She has been a great role model and a wonderful person to work with." Christine Wise R.N. -"Marie is a strong source for nursing for our Day Surgery unit. She has helped precept new staff many times. Her experience/knowledge is admired and respected by her peers." From Chris Baskarakumar "I started working here eleven months ago, and Marie was my preceptor that always made me feel comfortable. Even though I have been here a while, I still have questions some of the time, and when I do, I can ask Marie without feeling self-conscious. When she retires, I will miss her guiding force, but the thing I will miss the most about her is her Long Island accent.
